Wow, what a great turnout for our first annual Miss Mattie’s Jazz Brunch at the lovely Jolimar in Summit! It was a huge success, and lots of fun! I have to say, we, particularly me, were very worried about the weather. It had stormed quite a bit in the days leading up to the event and Saturday’s forecast wasn’t looking good. We had everything set up Friday night and all we could do after that was hope and pray the weather would hold. Saturday morning, it wasn’t looking much better, the wind was gusting and the skies were cloudy and threatening. I was getting sick to my stomach at the thought of the brunch getting washed out and how that would disappoint Miss Mattie. Sarah and my dad told me not to worry, there was no way God was going to let it rain on Miss Mattie’s party. Boy, were they right!
Miss Mattie arrived early and the clouds began to lighten. As the first few guests arrived, it looked like the rain would hold off for a little while. But by the time the Vibe Doctors band were in full swing, the crowd was growing and the guests were battling it out over silent auction items, God had pulled the clouds back, quieted the wind and given us a glorious day of sunshine to enjoy! I just looked at Sarah, Robbin, Jeff and Karen and smiled. It was a great day!
We are very pleased to say we sold over 200 tickets and our gross dollars earned for the Jazz Brunch was $38,100! Our silent auction was responsible for $6,415 of that total! We could not be more pleased with the outcome.
We want to thank all of our sponsors, with a special mention to Pike National Bank, Rainbow Automotive and The McDonald Family! These were our Platinum sponsors that stepped up to the plate for this brand new event and really helped make it the success it was. That said, we are thrilled at the support from the other local businesses. Including a few individual sponsors, the event had a total of 52 sponsors! Another big wow for us! We are so grateful for those businesses that joined us in our efforts to honor Miss Mattie and to fund our first year of the foundations scholarships! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
We also want to give a big thank you to those individuals and businesses that donated silent auction items. I have to say, we had some terrific items and the final tally really shows it! We had amazing art from local artists, a 4 day stay in a condo in Seaside, a weekend in a lake house at Dixie Springs, signed sports items, concert tickets and more! In addition, another thank you goes out to those businesses and individuals who provided the foundation with neat door prizes for our guests! It’s always fun to get something for free!
If you were one of the patrons that attended the brunch, we sure hope you had a great time. All of the feedback we heard was very positive! We want to thank you as well for coming out and honoring Miss Mattie and helping the foundation reach our goal of providing scholarships to deserving children in the Pike, Amite and Walthall counties. We hope you liked the cups and window stickers! If you have any feedback our suggestions, we’d love to hear them. If you’re interested in being a volunteer for The Miss Mattie Foundation, please reach out to us about that as well. Pretty soon, we’ll begin planning for next year’s event!
After we all celebrated the event and began to clean up and Miss Mattie headed home, God decided He needed some more rain in the area. A torrential downpour came as we finished loading up our cars. We didn’t mind a bit, the first annual Miss Mattie’s Jazz Brunch had been a huge hit! We just wiped away the rain and kept on smiling!
